About Airbyte
Airbyte is the data and action layer for AI agents, providing fast, accurate, authenticated access to business data across hundreds of sources. Founded in 2020, Airbyte has raised $181M from investors including Benchmark, Accel, Altimeter, Coatue, and Y Combinator.
The Role
As Airbyte's Accounting Manager, you will own day-to-day accounting operations and reporting, replacing manual processes and outsourced accounting firm dependencies with clean, automated, in-house workflows. You will manage a Senior Accountant and an outsourced accounting team, and over time help bring accounting in-house. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will be a thought partner on automating the close and operations, with room to experiment with modern tooling and AI. This role is expected to take on increasing ownership and responsibility, with the opportunity to help shape and ultimately lead the accounting function over time.
What You'll Do
- Own accounting operations and reporting - GL, AP/AR, and the general ledger close - with accuracy, timeliness, and US GAAP compliance.
- Run the month-end close, and continuously shorten and automate it.
- Manage a Senior Accountant and our outsourced accounting team, and help lead the transition of work in-house over time.
- Prepare for and support external audits, including documentation, technical accounting memos, and internal controls.
- Apply and help maintain technical accounting policies, including revenue recognition under ASC 606 and lease accounting under ASC 842.
- Evaluate, implement, and optimize accounting systems and workflows - reducing manual work and building for scale.
- Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Engineering, and Support to keep accounting accurate across our business systems.
- Act as a thought partner to the Director of Finance on automating close and operations, including using AI where it drives real impact.
- Grow into broader ownership of the accounting function as the business scales.
- Perform and review detailed flux and variance analysis, identifying and proactively investigating unexpected trends or anomalies in our financials.
What You'll Need
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Ideally a Big 4 audit and startup combined background.
- Working knowledge of US GAAP, including revenue recognition (ASC 606) and lease accounting (ASC 842).
- Strong systems instincts - you've evaluated, implemented, or redesigned accounting workflows and tools, and you reach for automation before manual effort.
- Tech-savvy and genuinely AI-curious - you've explored (or are eager to explore) how automation and AI can transform accounting, and you like building.
- An operational, ownership mindset - pragmatic, solution-oriented, and able to work autonomously.
- Startups move fast, so the ability to adapt and learn quickly is key.
- A people person. We have a strong culture and care about bringing in teammates who fit in and make it better.
Nice To Have
- CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
- Experience implementing or migrating to a new ERP system.
- Experience with PLG and/or enterprise SaaS revenue models.
- Familiarity with our stack: NetSuite, Rillet, Campfire, Ramp, Carta, Orb, and Claude Code.
- Experience with auditing.
