About the job

About the role

Anthropic is seeking a Director, Revenue Controls to be the Accounting owner of the control environment over our order-to-cash cycle. Revenue includes subscription and consumption, self-serve and enterprise motions, 1P and 3P channels, and a metering pipeline that feeds billing and revenue recognition. The role reports to the Revenue Controller and partners with Accounting, Systems, and Internal Audit as the company builds toward SOX 404 compliance. This is an established Revenue team with functional leads across order management, collections, and revenue accounting, plus dedicated engineering and systems partners.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as the accountable first-line control owner for order-to-cash and revenue business process controls, including control design, documentation, execution, and evidence.
  • Maintain order-to-cash process narratives, SOPs, and process maps as the institutional standard.
  • Partner with Billing, AR & Collections, Deal Desk, and Revenue Accounting to keep process definitions current and consistently executed.
  • Design and influence controls over usage capture and rating, contract-to-billing accuracy, invoice completeness, cash application, and credit and adjustment approvals.
  • Own identification and control treatment of key reports and Information Produced by the Entity (IPE), including completeness and accuracy validation.
  • Partner with Revenue Technology and Internal Audit on IT-dependent and automated controls, including interface and reconciliation controls and configuration change governance.
  • Embed control requirements into new system implementations and process changes at design time.
  • Partner with third-party service providers to secure relevant SOC 1 reports.
  • Work with Internal Audit on scoping, walkthroughs, testing, and deficiency evaluation; own remediation design and drive it to closure.
  • Engage with Product, Sales, Partnerships, and Legal on new offerings, pricing constructs, and go-to-market motions.
  • Diagnose recurring breakdowns, train process owners, support external auditors, and represent Revenue in system design, configuration, testing, and cutover.

Qualifications

Minimum: experience supporting SOX 404 readiness at a pre-IPO company or public reporting environment; Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; deep, hands-on SOX experience over revenue and order-to-cash processes; business-side ownership or lead partnership on revenue system implementations; working knowledge of ASC 606; experience with consumption and subscription revenue models and large transaction volumes; a track record of influencing across stakeholders; precision communication; comfort operating in ambiguity.

Preferred: 15+ years of progressive experience in internal controls, revenue operations, revenue accounting, and finance transformation; CPA, CIA, or comparable certification; Big 4 audit, risk advisory, or finance transformation background; hands-on experience with ERPs and revenue engines; familiarity with third-party marketplace billing dynamics (AWS, GCP, Azure); SOX or GRC tooling; SQL; Lean, Six Sigma, or formal process improvement training; strong interest in applying AI and automation to revenue operations.

Compensation and benefits

Annual salary: $300,000—$385,000 USD. Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office space.

Location and logistics

San Francisco, CA or Seattle, WA. Hybrid: all staff are expected to be in one of Anthropic's offices at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more. Visa sponsorship is offered where possible.
