About Anthropic
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco, focused on creating reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems.
About the role
As Compute & Infrastructure Counsel, Real Estate, you'll drive legal execution for Anthropic's largest physical infrastructure transactions: direct datacenter leases, construction agreements, and financing structures. You'll work in close partnership with specialized outside counsel, serving as the in-house coordinator to ensure external work product aligns with Anthropic's commercial objectives and compute strategy.
Responsibilities
- Negotiate long-term datacenter leases with major developers
- Coordinate construction-adjacent agreements including design-build contracts, equipment procurement, and commissioning schedules
- Manage legal workstreams for complex financing structures (e.g., sale-leasebacks, tax components, project finance vehicles)
- Collaborate with compute team's transaction managers, providing legal and risk management expertise
- Coordinate with finance and corporate development on strategic deal structuring
- Understand how datacenter legal structures interact with compute capacity, including power, cooling, security, and expansion rights
- Escalate novel structures that create downstream risk; ensure facility designs accommodate AI-specific requirements
Minimum qualifications
- Law degree (JD, LLB, or equivalent) and local licensing to work as in-house counsel
- Fluency in commercial real estate and construction contracting, including datacenter lease structures and construction risk allocation
- Experience with EPC, AIA, and design-build arrangements at scale
- Comfort with project finance structures and the interplay between lease, financing, and development agreements
- Ability to coordinate with specialized outside counsel while maintaining strategic direction
- Strong judgment about downstream risk and effective collaboration with business teams
Preferred qualifications
- At least 8 years of relevant legal experience with exposure to infrastructure real estate, project finance, or construction contracts
- In-house experience at datacenter developers or infrastructure private equity firms
- Experience at large technology companies with datacenter construction programs
- Law firm experience in infrastructure finance or project development
- Familiarity with tax structures, sale-leasebacks, or other financing vehicles
