Data Center Electrical Engineer

Anthropic's Data Center team is responsible for delivering physical infrastructure to power large-scale AI training and serving. As a Data Center Electrical Engineer, you will lead the electrical design of facilities across the US portfolio, owning architecture from utility service entrance to rack. You will develop reference designs and specifications, review engineering submittals, and run analyses on topology, redundancy, and equipment selection. A central part of the role is driving prefabrication and modular construction strategies, including modular skids, e-houses, and prefabricated power assemblies.

• Lead electrical design of critical data center equipment, including utility interface, substation, medium-/high-voltage infrastructure, generators, UPS, switchgear, transformers, and grounding systems.
• Develop and maintain electrical basis of design, reference architectures, and technical specifications for critical power distribution.
• Perform engineering studies including short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, load flow, and power quality analysis.
• Design and plan data center hall layouts, including rack positioning, structured cabling, and power distribution.
• Drive prefabricated and modular electrical strategy, coordinating with external engineering and manufacturing teams.
• Review and approve electrical design packages, submittals, and shop drawings from build partners and MEP consultants.
• Work with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and ANSI requirements.
• Provide technical support during construction and commissioning, resolving field engineering issues.

• 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, with substantial data center or high-availability electrical distribution design experience.
• Deep familiarity with US electrical codes and standards, including NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and UL/ANSI equipment standards.
• Hands-on experience with prefabricated and modular data center electrical infrastructure.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Experience producing and reviewing electrical construction documents, single-line diagrams, and equipment specifications.
• Proficiency in power systems analysis tools such as SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower.
• Understanding of critical power topologies (2N, N+1, distributed redundant, block redundant).
