About the job
Overview
The Director of Global Strategic Events is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategy, governance, and execution of MongoDB’s global strategic events portfolio. This is a builder’s role at a pivotal moment, requiring a leader who can define a bold vision for how MongoDB shows up in an AI-native and agentic future, lead a global team to bring that vision to life, and drive measurable pipeline, revenue, and brand impact. Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Marketing, this leader will operate with significant autonomy, influence across functions, and engage regularly with executive stakeholders. This role can be based out of any MongoDB U.S. office or remotely within the United States.
Responsibilities
- Define the sponsorship and partner event strategy, building MongoDB’s approach to sponsorship packages, exhibitor programs, and partner activations across flagship and third-party events in close partnership with Partner Marketing Lead and develop a global team.
- Manage, coach, and grow a high-performing, globally distributed events team, establishing clear priorities, operating rhythms, accountability, and consistent standards of excellence across regions and time zones.
- Build with AI: bring an AI-native approach to how the function operates, using AI tools and agents to improve workflows, automate reporting, increase team capacity, and personalize attendee journeys. This is a core requirement of the role.
- Represent Strategic Events across the business, partnering with leaders across Marketing, Sales, Product, Partner, and Communications, and representing the function in senior planning forums.
- Shape the global strategic events vision and portfolio, setting the strategy, priorities, and tiering framework for MongoDB’s flagship user conferences, executive summits, global roadshows, sales kickoff, and top-tier third-party conferences.
- Drive pipeline and revenue impact, partnering closely with Revenue Marketing and Sales to build integrated pre-event, onsite, and post-event programs that turn engagement into qualified pipeline and measurable business outcomes.
- Set the experiential and creative vision, creating differentiated, audience-centered experiences for developers, technical leaders, business decision-makers, customers, partners, and executives.
- Own the budget, vendor model, and event infrastructure, managing a multi-million-dollar Strategic Events budget, including forecasting, allocation, and ROI, and overseeing the global agency and production model along with the event technology and data stack.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience leading global B2B events in enterprise technology or SaaS, including proprietary flagship conferences, executive programs, and complex event portfolios.
- Strong executive presence and influence, with a track record of partnering with C-level stakeholders and cross-functional leaders in a matrixed organization.
- Experience leading global, distributed teams, including senior individual contributors and people leaders.
- Demonstrated understanding of how AI drives business value, championing AI adoption and partnering effectively with technical stakeholders building AI/agent-based systems. Hands-on experience building these systems is a plus but not required; familiarity with AI chat tools alone is not sufficient.
- Deep operational and financial experience, including managing multi-million-dollar budgets, global agencies and production partners, complex vendor ecosystems, and high-stakes negotiations.
- Proven accountability for pipeline and revenue impact, fluent in pipeline attribution, revenue influence, ROI measurement, and event performance reporting.
- Experience designing events for technical or developer audiences is a plus.
