Engineering Manager, Linux Team

Cloudflare is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Linux Team, responsible for managing a high-performing team of kernel and systems engineers. The role focuses on owning the OS lifecycle, driving the technical vision for the kernel development roadmap, and promoting upstream advocacy within the Linux Kernel community.

• Lead and mentor a team of kernel and systems engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous knowledge sharing.
• Oversee end-to-end delivery of the Linux Kernel and core OS components, aiming for a fully automated continuous delivery pipeline from merge to production in less than 30 days.
• Steer the Cloudflare kernel development roadmap, balancing cutting-edge features with production stability, security, and performance.
• Promote a 'minimal patch' philosophy and support engineers in becoming upstream maintainers for critical subsystems.
• Collaborate with hardware and service teams to onboard new hardware and optimize workloads for the OS.
• Lead development of automated systems for kernel-level debugging and telemetry collection during system crashes.
• Measure success using DORA metrics and team-specific capabilities such as time-to-fix and upstream commit volume.

• 5+ years of experience managing engineering teams, ideally in low-level systems, kernel development, or large-scale infrastructure.
• Deep understanding of Linux Kernel internals, x86/ARM architecture, and OS design fundamentals.
• Experience building or managing CI/CD pipelines for foundational software.
• Proven track record of engaging with the open-source community and understanding upstreaming nuances.
• Understanding of challenges in global 'reboot-limited' production environments, with experience in pre-production QA and synthetic workload evaluation.
• Ability to translate complex kernel-level obstacles into actionable business insights for stakeholders.

Estimated annual salary for New York City and California (excluding Bay Area) based hires: $220,000 - $303,000. For Bay Area based hires: $230,000 - $317,000. This role is eligible to participate in Cloudflare's equity plan.
