The platform offers a developer-first experience with persistent compute, dynamic autoscaling, built-in orchestration, and observability, trusted by over 7 million developers. In February 2026, Render raised an additional $100M in Series C financing, bringing total funding to $260M.
Role
As Engineering Manager for the newly formed Platform team, you will lead a growing group of engineers to modernize Render's internal developer platform and shared production infrastructure (observability, CI/CD, developer environments, storage, and more). This role blends strong technical leadership with product thinking, partnering with other engineering teams and product managers to translate user needs into high-quality, scalable systems.
What You'll Do
- Lead and grow a team of platform engineers, supporting their development through mentorship, feedback, and clear technical guidance.
- Drive execution on key product initiatives from ideation through launch, balancing speed with high standards of reliability and quality.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Engage deeply in technical discussions, guiding system design decisions and architectural tradeoffs.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging tools.
- Help the team break down complex problems into incremental milestones.
- Ensure teams maintain a strong understanding of developer experience, reliability, security, and velocity impact.
- Partner closely with teams like Runtime, Security, and Product to align priorities and deliver impactful features.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years as an Engineer on an Infrastructure or similarly shaped team shipping products or features for other developers.
- 4+ years of experience managing people and developing engineers, including hiring, mentorship, and performance management.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Strong technical background with ability to engage in system design, architecture, and engineering tradeoffs.
- Ability to translate engineering goals and user needs into roadmaps and shipped features.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Experience improving Reliability and/or Developer Experience through tooling, processes, and team practices.
- Deep experience with open source technologies supporting an internal platform tool or cluster, build & deployment systems, CI/CD, observability, and/or configuration management.
Nice-to-Haves
- Background working on highly scalable distributed systems or infrastructure platforms.
- Experience on teams managing large fleets of developer environments, sandboxes, or testing ecosystems.
- Experience building platforms and/or products used directly by developers.
