Machine Learning Engineer

Airbnb is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join the Relevance and Personalization team, responsible for search and recommendation across the entire Airbnb platform. The role focuses on developing end-to-end ranking algorithms and ecosystems to optimize multiple critical business objectives.

• Work with large-scale structured and unstructured data to build and improve machine learning models for product, business, and operational use cases.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners including software engineers, product managers, operations, and data scientists to identify opportunities, refine requirements, and quantify impact.
• Develop, productionize, and operate machine learning models and pipelines at scale, including batch and real-time use cases.
• Leverage third-party and in-house ML tools and infrastructure to build reusable, high-performing ML systems.

• New grad Ph.D in ML/AI or 2+ years of industry experience in applied ML/AI with a M.S. or B.S degree.
• Strong programming (Scala / Python / Java / C++ or equivalent) and data engineering skills.
• Deep understanding of ML best practices, algorithms (e.g., neural networks/deep learning, optimization), and domains (e.g., NLP, computer vision, personalization, search and recommendation).
• Exposure to 3 or more of: TensorFlow, PyTorch, Kubernetes, Spark, Airflow, Kafka, data warehouse (e.g., Hive).
• Experience with architectural patterns of large-scale software applications.

Base pay range: $166,000—$195,000 USD. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
