Manager, Machine Learning Engineering (Fraud)

The Fraud Machine Learning team builds models that power critical decisions during loan application, protecting Affirm and customers from fraud while maintaining a seamless user experience. As a manager, you will lead a team of ML engineers developing and improving fraud detection models in a rapidly evolving, adversarial environment.

• Define technical and modeling strategy for fraud detection, aligning with business outcomes like fraud loss reduction and approval rates.
• Lead the team across the full ML lifecycle from feature development to production deployment.
• Drive adoption of representation learning and transformer-based techniques.
• Partner with Product, Fraud Analytics, Risk, and Engineering to integrate models into decisioning systems.
• Develop talent through coaching and feedback.

• Bachelor's in a technical field with 8+ years of industry experience, including 3+ years managing engineers.
• Experience with modern ML approaches (representation learning, deep learning, transformers) and traditional methods like gradient-boosted trees.
• Proven ability to lead teams delivering end-to-end ML solutions in production, including experimentation and model iteration.
• Strong engineering fundamentals with scalable systems and data pipelines.
• Effective cross-functional collaboration and ability to operate in ambiguous environments.

USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $230,000 - $290,000; all other U.S. states: $204,000 - $264,000. Total compensation may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits including 100% subsidized medical, dental, and vision coverage.
