It runs one of the world's largest networks, powering millions of websites and Internet properties for customers from individual bloggers to Fortune 500 companies. The company protects and accelerates any Internet application without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code. Cloudflare was named to Entrepreneur Magazine's Top Company Cultures list and ranked among the World's Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company.

Role Summary

As the Principal Content Engineer on the Developer GTM team, you are the content engine for growth. You'll translate product reality and industry trends into content developers find, read, build from, and return to. You'll personally write and build flagship pieces—deep tutorials, runnable sample apps, reference architectures, and narratives—and set the architecture, standards, and tooling for the whole GTM team to produce quality at scale. This role also shapes the next-generation learning platform, both internally and externally, as search becomes conversational and AI agents consume content directly.

Responsibilities

  • Own the content architecture for Developer GTM, defining content types, editorial standards, and quality bar across tutorials, blog posts, sample apps, newsletters, and community/education content.
  • Build and run systems that scale quality: self-healing pipelines, AI-assisted review, CI checks, and quality guardrails that catch broken examples, stale versions, and wrong APIs.
  • Write and build flagship content on the Developer Platform, including Workers, Workers AI, R2, Durable Objects, Queues, and beyond.
  • Drive developer acquisition and activation by partnering with Growth, DevRel, Product, and PMM to map content to the developer journey.
  • Be the AI-native edge: build AI-assisted content tooling and ensure content is discoverable by AI agents and LLMs.
  • Identify emerging developer behaviors (AI agents, MCP servers, vibe coding, multi-tenant applications, edge-native architectures) and translate them into narratives.
  • Raise the floor by establishing conventions, templates, and tooling, and mentor the team.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years at the intersection of technical content, developer education, and software engineering, with a portfolio showing both writing and building.
  • Exceptional technical writing and editing, with craft to set a high quality bar.
  • Real engineering depth: design, build, ship, and maintain production tooling with proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and modern web development; familiarity with version control, CI/CD, and testing.
  • Experience building automated content systems, including pipelines, CI checks, freshness/validation tooling, and AI-assisted review.
  • Content analytics and experimentation chops, tying content to acquisition/activation/adoption outcomes.
  • Information architecture and editorial standards experience for a substantial technical content surface.
  • Knowledge of the developer journey and how developers discover, evaluate, and adopt platforms.

Compensation

Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location. For Bay Area based hires: Estimated annual salary of $230,000 - $317,000. For NYC based hires: Estimated annual salary of $220,000 - $303,000. This role is eligible to participate in Cloudflare's equity plan.

Benefits

Cloudflare offers a complete package of benefits and programs, including health care, caregiving support, capital building, and more. Benefits for U.S. employees include medical/Rx, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, commuter spending accounts, fertility & family forming benefits, on-demand mental health support, employee assistance program, global travel medical insurance, short and long term disability, life & accident insurance, 401(k) retirement savings plan, employee stock participation plan, flexible paid time off covering vacation and sick leave, and leave programs including parental, pregnancy health, medical, and bereavement leave.
