The Compliance Experiences team at Twilio owns Phone Numbers and Compliance (KYC) domains, processing millions of requests. As a Principal Engineer (P5), you will own the technical strategy, pioneer AI-driven development workflows using LLMs and agentic agents, and lead the architecture of a distributed microservices platform.
Responsibilities
- Lead architecture and technical roadmap, transitioning legacy systems to modern microservices.
- Use AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Anthropic Claude) to accelerate development.
- Drive technical excellence across teams, balancing innovation with reliability and security.
- Partner with Product Managers to translate regulations into developer-first APIs.
- Mentor senior and staff engineers, fostering a culture of technical curiosity.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks, lead production incidents.
- Communicate strategies via design documents, RFCs, and presentations.
Qualifications
Required: 16+ years designing highly available, high-scale, secure cloud-native distributed systems. Expert proficiency in Java or Go, deep AWS knowledge (Lambda, EKS, DynamoDB, Kafka). Architectural mastery with microservices and five-nines resilience. Demonstrated AI-native workflow using LLMs. Track record of high-volume public APIs. Data savvy with SQL/NoSQL, Redis, Kafka, or Spark. Proficiency with Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD. Proven leadership influence.
Desired: Telecom domain expertise, platform thinking, agentic systems experience.
Location
Remote across USA. Occasional travel for team meetings.
Compensation
Estimated pay ranges vary by location: $188,240-$235,300 (CO, HI, IL, MD, MA, MN, VT, DC), $199,280-$249,100 (NY, NJ, WA, CA outside SF Bay), $221,360-$276,700 (SF Bay Area). Eligible for equity and bonus plans.
