About the job

Elastic, the Search AI Company, enables everyone to find answers in real time using all their data at scale. The Elastic Search AI Platform, used by more than 50% of the Fortune 500, brings together search and AI for search, security, and observability.

We are looking for a Principal Product Manager to lead the strategy and roadmap for Elastic's embedding/reranking and vector database capabilities. In this senior role, you will be the go-to expert on search/vector search, guiding vector indexing and hybrid retrieval.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct market research on search/vector databases and SOTA model research.
  • Evaluate the competitive landscape and develop user personas.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align product strategy.
  • Own the vision, strategy, and multi-quarter roadmap for Elastic's vector database and core search use cases.
  • Define and defend metrics: recall, latency, index size, ingestion throughput, and total cost of ownership.
  • Advance competitiveness across Serverless and Self-managed deployments.
  • Define unified strategy across embedding/reranking models, vector indexing, semantic ingestion, model lifecycle, and end-to-end retrieval quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master's preferred.
  • 8+ years in product management with technical infrastructure, databases, search, or ML/AI platforms.
  • Working knowledge of vector search fundamentals: embeddings, ANN indexing, similarity metrics, recall/latency trade-offs, hybrid retrieval.
  • Knowledge of generative models, fine-tuning, model capabilities, and document processing.
  • Track record of shipping developer- or infrastructure-facing products adopted at scale.

Compensation

Base salary only, no variable compensation. Typical starting salary range: $199,700—$315,900 USD. In select locations (Seattle, LA, SF Bay Area, NYC Metro), alternate range: $239,800—$379,300 USD. Eligible for stock program and 401k match up to 6%.

Benefits

  • Health coverage for you and your family
  • Flexible locations and schedules
  • Generous vacation days
  • Up to $2000 donation match and 40 hours volunteer time
  • Minimum 16 weeks parental leave
