Principal Software Developer - Security - Elasticsearch

We are seeking a Principal Software Developer to join the Elasticsearch Security team, leading architecture and design of authentication, authorization, and tenant isolation features.

• Own core security initiatives from architecture to production.
• Lead technical design and execution for major security components in the Elasticsearch core engine.
• Optimize security performance at scale in distributed systems.
• Apply cryptographic solutions to customer use cases.
• Collaborate with InfoSec on vulnerability management, using AI-driven tools for triage and prioritization.
• Mentor engineers to foster security-first development.

• Deep knowledge of Java internals and JVM memory management.
• Experience with high-performance, thread-safe, lock-free code.
• Proven experience designing scalable authorization systems (RBAC/ABAC, token validation, distributed cache invalidation).
• Solid understanding of distributed systems security, including zero-trust transport and cluster state propagation.
• Deep knowledge of OAuth 2.0 and SAML.
• Track record of using AI to accelerate development and debug complex systems.

• Knowledge of TLS handshakes, PKI/certificate lifecycle, and Post-Quantum Cryptography.
• Experience mapping controls to FedRAMP, FIPS 140, and SOC 2.
• Experience with data store or search engine internals.

Base salary range: $154,000—$243,600 CAD. Eligible for Elastic's stock program. Benefits include company-matched RRSP up to 6%, health coverage, parental leave (minimum 16 weeks), and flexible schedules for many roles.
