Principal Software Engineer, Frontend Experiences

Algolia is the retrieval intelligence layer that powers search and discovery for over 18,000 customers, handling 1.7 trillion queries a year with millisecond latency and 99.999% reliability. As a Principal Software Engineer on the Frontend Experiences team, you will shape how developers build with Algolia and how customers experience our products. You will define the multi-year technical vision for Algolia's front-end platform, drive convergence on a shared component library, and architect systems that run on thousands of customer sites. You will also play a key role in evolving the Algolia Dashboard into a coherent environment, supporting conversational and agentic workflows.

• Define the multi-year technical vision for Algolia's front-end platform and turn it into roadmaps and projects.
• Shape the experience architecture, component strategy, and technical foundations for conversational and agentic UX in the Algolia Dashboard.
• Drive convergence on a shared component library, reducing duplication across product surfaces.
• Design and deliver scalable, highly available, performant solutions, including on pages and apps we do not control.
• Own solutions from delivery to adoption by engineering teams and customers.
• Shape API design, versioning, and backward-compatibility strategy for public libraries.
• Set engineering standards and best practices.
• Mentor and lead team members.

• 10+ years of experience with a track record of setting technical direction across multiple teams.
• Experience as a thought leader/standard-bearer for engineers (talks, open source, writing).
• Proven experience leading engineers on large, cross-cutting projects.
• Extensive experience designing full stack solutions, interacting with microservice architectures, and strong grounding beyond the frontend (APIs, backend services, delivery infrastructure).
• Deep frontend expertise: TypeScript, modern web platform, React and other major frameworks, accessibility, bundle size and runtime performance.
• Experience designing and maintaining public libraries, SDKs, or design systems.
• Experience building complex, high-traffic multi-product web applications such as dashboards or admin consoles.
• Interest in conversational and agentic interfaces (chat, streaming responses, tool-driven workflows).
• Familiarity with search UX patterns and generative AI is a plus.

Base salary range: €108,000—€135,000 EUR. Algolia offers a flexible workplace model with options for remote or hybrid-remote work, and a Total Rewards philosophy.
