About the job

Anthropic is a public benefit corporation focused on creating reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The RL Velocity team owns the efficiency and reliability of the RL Science stack, building infrastructure and tooling for researchers. As a Research Engineer, you will build and improve the core platform for RL at Anthropic, removing bottlenecks and enabling faster model development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Building and improving RL training infrastructure
  • Identifying and removing bottlenecks across the RL stack
  • Partnering with researchers and engineering teams
  • Owning reliability and performance of research runs
  • Contributing to design decisions

Ideal candidates have strong software engineering fundamentals, experience with ML infrastructure, distributed systems, or research tooling, and comfort across the stack. Strong candidates may have experience with large-scale distributed training and familiarity with JAX, PyTorch, or similar ML frameworks.

The role is based in London, UK, with a hybrid work policy requiring at least 25% time in the office. Compensation is £370,000—£630,000 GBP annually.
