About the job

Instacart is transforming the grocery industry, providing grocery delivery and related services. The Digital Twin Platform team is focused on understanding store shelves in real time, supporting search, logistics, and enterprise AI solutions.

We are looking for a Senior Android Engineer to build Android-native applications for our store view and Connected Stores programs. This is a net new role with real ownership, working on complex technical problems that shape how grocers and shoppers experience Instacart technology in the physical world.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own Android applications for the Digital Twin Platform, including standalone scanning apps and Android-native experiences for Connected Stores initiatives.
  • Serve as a technical leader for Android development, setting architectural direction and best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Caper, Inventory Intelligence, and Fulfillment.
  • Operate in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment, balancing long-term architecture with quick iteration.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional Android development experience using Kotlin and/or Java.
  • Deep expertise in Android SDK, Jetpack libraries, and modern architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture).
  • Experience building Android applications from the ground up.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred qualifications include experience with enterprise tools, hardware integrations, kiosk applications, scanning/barcode workflows, Bluetooth, NFC, camera APIs, and data-intensive applications.

This role is remote and open to candidates in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia. The base pay range for Canadian candidates is CAN$196,000—$207,000 CAD, and the role is eligible for new hire equity grants and annual refresh grants.
