About the Role
Mixpanel is evolving from a single product analytics tool into a multi product platform—and our visual identity needs to evolve with it. We're looking for a Visual Designer who wants to help define what that looks like.
You'll work closely with our core brand team, exploring ideas, developing conceptual directions, and bringing our brand to life across digital and print. This isn't about producing assets to spec. It's about pushing our visual language forward while building systems that scale. You'll advocate for brand consistency where it matters and know when to break out and try something new.
We work on abstract concepts—ideas that don't have obvious visual solutions. A background in illustration is a big plus because you'll often be tasked with making the intangible feel tangible. If you're a designer who loves to explore, iterate, and craft work that stands out in a sea of generic SaaS, this is the role.
What You'll Do
Explore and expand our visual identity
- Concept and iterate through visual directions that push Mixpanel's brand forward
- Help define how our identity flexes across contexts—web, campaigns, events, product, print
- Balance brand systems thinking with creative exploration; know when to follow the rules and when to break them
Bring abstract concepts to life
- Develop illustrations and visual approaches for ideas that don't have obvious solutions
- Translate complex, technical products into imagery that resonates emotionally
- Collaborate with the brand copywriter to ensure visual and narrative work together
Design across surfaces
- Create work for campaigns, branded content, events, digital experiences, and print
- Partner with motion designers to conceptualize animated expressions of the brand
- Brief and collaborate with external partners (illustrators, animators, agencies) when projects require additional expertise
Champion the brand
- Maintain and expand a flexible brand system that scales to meet business needs
- Ensure consistency across marketing channels while seeking opportunities to experiment
- Participate actively in design critiques and reviews, providing thoughtful feedback across the team
What We're Looking For
Experience and craft
- 5+ years of experience in visual design, in-house or agency
- Strong command of the fundamentals—typography, color, layout, composition
- Portfolio demonstrating range across brand systems, campaigns, web, print, and environmental work
- Illustration skills or a strong illustration sensibility—you'll be visualizing abstract concepts regularly
Creative mindset
- You love to explore and iterate; you're not precious about early ideas
- You have opinions about what makes design good and can articulate them
- You stay curious about new techniques and technologies but aren't chasing trends—you want to build something original
- You're excited by the challenge of standing out in a crowded market, not playing it safe
Collaboration and communication
- You can translate project needs and audience insights into informed design decisions
- You give and receive feedback thoughtfully
How you work
- You balance multiple projects and prioritize based on business goals
- You're a self-starter who operates independently within a small team
- You're proactive, thoughtful, and bring creative energy to the work
Bonus skills
- Motion design, 3D, prototyping, or creative coding experience
- AI Tooling to scale your work
