Senior Data Engineer II

The data and AI team within Business Technology enables integrated data layers for Samsara. We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer II who brings a software engineer's mindset to data infrastructure, building platforms and intelligent tooling including MCP servers and AI agents.

• Develop and maintain end-to-end data pipelines and backend ingestion workflows.
• Design, build, and operate large-scale Spark and PySpark workflows for batch and streaming data processing across Databricks and cloud environments.
• Design, build, and manage data APIs in Python using frameworks such as FastAPI, and manage API runtime in AWS (Lambda, RDS).
• Define and enforce data engineering standards and best practices.
• Build and maintain MCP servers and integrate agentic workflows into the data engineering lifecycle.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
• 10+ years of software engineering with data focus or data engineering experience.
• 8+ years building production-grade data pipelines including data modeling.
• 5+ years hands-on Spark/PySpark in production.
• 3+ years developing and managing APIs, preferably in Python.
• Strong programming in Python and SQL, cloud data warehouse/lakehouse experience (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or Iceberg).
• Exposure to ETL tools such as Fivetran, DBT.
• RDBMS experience: MySQL, AWS RDS/Aurora, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server.
• Cloud: AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.

Annual base salary range: $134,470—$203,400 USD. Eligible for initial RSU grant and performance-based bonus.

Remote - US and Canada, excluding San Francisco Bay Area and New York Metro City.
