About the job
Instacart is transforming the grocery industry by providing grocery delivery and related services. The Digital Twin Platform team aims to understand exactly what is on store shelves at all times, bringing smart warehouse precision to local grocery stores across North America. This team drives the end-to-end shelf data supply chain, ingesting data from retail partners, collecting novel inventory observations, developing models, and integrating outputs into live products.
We are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to help build the next generation of platforms for understanding, observing, and predicting inventory levels and in-store stocking dynamics in real time. You will develop and deploy machine learning models into production, collaborating with software engineers, computer vision engineers, product leads, and data scientists.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models for real-time understanding of in-store inventory levels and shelf stocking dynamics across thousands of retail locations.
- Own the full ML lifecycle from problem framing and data exploration through model training, evaluation, and production deployment.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with software engineers, computer vision engineers, data scientists, and product leads.
- Contribute to building and evolving the core infrastructure of the Digital Twin Platform, including systems that ingest data from retail partners and collect novel inventory observations.
- Help define the technical direction of an expanding modeling practice.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience developing and deploying machine learning models in production.
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
- Experience with large-scale data pipelines and structured/unstructured data at scale.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and ML platform tooling.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in CS, ML, Statistics, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred: experience with computer vision, inventory forecasting, demand sensing, real-time inference systems, and retail/supply chain domains.
Compensation & Benefits
Base pay range for Canadian candidates: CAN$206,000—$217,500 CAD. This role is eligible for a new hire equity grant and annual refresh grants. Instacart provides market-competitive compensation and benefits.
