About the job
Instacart is transforming the grocery industry. The Digital Twin Platform team is on a mission to understand exactly what is on store shelves at all times, bringing the precision and depth of a smart warehouse to every local grocery store across North America. This team drives the end-to-end shelf data supply chain: ingesting data from retail partners, collecting novel inventory observations, developing sophisticated models, and integrating outputs into live products at scale.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to help build the next generation of platforms for understanding, observing, and predicting inventory levels and in-store stocking dynamics in real time. You will develop machine learning models and deploy them into production systems, collaborating with software engineers, computer vision engineers, product leads, and data scientists.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models for real-time understanding of in-store inventory levels and shelf stocking dynamics across thousands of retail locations.
- Own the full ML lifecycle from problem framing through production deployment.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with software engineers, computer vision engineers, data scientists, and product leads.
- Build and evolve core infrastructure of the Digital Twin Platform, including data ingestion and collection systems.
- Help define technical direction of an expanding modeling practice.
Qualifications
Minimum
- 5+ years of experience developing and deploying ML models in production.
- Strong proficiency in Python and ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
- Experience with large-scale data pipelines and structured/unstructured data.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and ML platform tooling.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in CS, ML, Statistics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred
- Experience with computer vision, inventory forecasting, demand sensing, or spatial/temporal modeling.
- Familiarity with real-time inference systems and low-latency serving.
- Prior experience in fast-paced cross-functional environments.
- Exposure to retail, supply chain, or e-commerce domains.
- Experience collaborating with computer vision teams.
