Senior Machine Learning Engineer II, Search & Recommendations Ranking

Instacart is transforming the grocery industry with a Flex First remote work policy. The Search & Personalization ML team builds the ranking backbone for search, discovery, recommendations, ads, and merchandising.

• Architect the ranking backbone unifying query understanding, personalization, multi-objective ranking, ads, and merchandising.
• Design search autosuggest and long-horizon objective functions (incrementality, LTV).
• Develop production-grade Multi-Task Learning (MMOE/PLE) and own the inference layer with latency optimization.
• Advance evaluation practices including online experiments and attribution pipelines.
• Mentor ML engineers.

• 5+ years applying ML at scale, 3+ years in technical leadership.
• Strong coding in Python, data fluency in SQL/Pandas, expertise in XGBoost and deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow/PyTorch).
• Graduate degree in ML, statistics, CS, or related field preferred.

Base pay ranges by location: CA, NY, CT, NJ: $207,000—$253,500; WA: $198,000—$243,000; OR, DE, ME, MA, MD, NH, RI, VT, DC, PA, VA, CO, TX, IL, HI: $190,000—$233,000; All other states: $173,000—$212,000. Eligible for new hire equity grant and annual refresh grants.
