About the job

Instacart is transforming the grocery industry. The Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) team is building an automated, engineering-grade risk program. This is an engineering role with data science expertise, writing production-level code, building signal ingestion pipelines, and developing probabilistic risk models.

Responsibilities

  • Build automated signal ingestion pipelines that pull real-time data from security tooling, normalizing and scoring findings into ranked risk intelligence.
  • Develop probabilistic risk models expressing security exposure as probability distributions, connecting outputs to investment decisions and board reporting.
  • Identify systemic choke points across the attack surface and prioritize high-leverage remediation paths.
  • Build dashboards and data-driven insights for security, engineering, and executive stakeholders.
  • Support risk quantification efforts in financial terms.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in data engineering with production-level Python and SQL (PostgreSQL, Presto, or SparkSQL).
  • 3+ years building and deploying machine learning or probabilistic models in production.
  • Experience with data pipelines for real-time/near-real-time data, stream and batch processing.
  • Experience with data modeling for classification, normalization, and risk/anomaly detection.
  • Familiarity with security risk concepts (EPSS, CISA KEV), quantitative risk frameworks (FAIR), and security frameworks (NIST CSF, SOC 2) preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

Base pay range for Canadian candidates: CAN$153,000—$187,000 CAD. Eligible for new hire equity grant and annual refresh grants.

Location

Remote in Canada (Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia only).
