Senior Software Developer - Storage Engine - Elasticsearch

Senior Software Developer on the Elasticsearch Storage Engine team, responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing core storage and query engine for observability workloads.

• Lead architectural evolution of core storage engine components, resolving performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
• Lead cross-organizational initiatives to build industry-leading observability solutions.
• Work with a globally distributed team on logs and metrics capabilities of Elasticsearch.
• Serve as subject matter expert and mentor across key areas of Elasticsearch.
• Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests.
• Write idiomatic modern Java.

• Experience building high-performance, scalable database, search, or distributed systems.
• Strong core Java skills with deep understanding of concurrency primitives.
• Experience with data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
• Ability to work autonomously and drive decisions in a distributed team.
• Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development and debug complex systems.
• Prompt-engineering mindset to leverage AI agents effectively.

• Built things with Elasticsearch.
• Worked with open source projects.
• Experience with data storage technology.
• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives.

Base salary range: $128,300—$203,000 CAD. No variable compensation. Eligible for stock program.
