Senior Software Engineer, Back-end (Fraud)

Affirm's Fraud Engineering organization builds foundational and tactical software to respond strategically to fraud in real time and after the transaction. The Fraud International Team (FIT) leads the engineering effort to extend Affirm's Fraud Decisioning System into markets beyond the US, including Canada, the UK, and Australia. This fully remote role is based in Europe, collaborating with stakeholders across North America.

• Own and deliver quarterly goals, leading engineers through ambiguity.
• Design and implement real-time fraud decisioning services and APIs in Python or Kotlin.
• Build platform and tooling to launch fraud decisioning in new countries quickly.
• Integrate region-specific fraud and risk vendors and operationalize ML/AI signals.
• Support operations, on-call rotation, and foster a culture of quality and ownership.

• 5+ years building backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience with distributed systems and infrastructure using AWS, MySQL/PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes.
• Strong system design skills.
• Fluency with AI-driven engineering (e.g., Claude Code).
• Proficiency in SQL.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices.
• Nice to have: Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Chronosphere, fraud prevention, internationalization, fintech experience.

Base pay range: €86,000 - €122,000 per year.
