Senior Software Engineer, Back-end, (Repayment Scheduling)

Affirm is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Back-end to join the Repayment Scheduling engineering team. This team builds and owns the system that enables users to automate their payments, processing up to $40B each year. The role is fully remote within Spain and involves working on a backend team located entirely in Europe.

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics on product development, articulating technical constraints and partnering on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs.
• Proactively identify project, process, technology, or business issues and lead in solving them.
• Support operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in on-call rotation.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating for them through writing and tech talks.
• Help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance.

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, and extensible designs.
• Ability to write high-quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
• Proficiency in making significant changes in a large code base, with tools and practices for safe delivery.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.

• Base pay range: €86,000 - €122,000 per year.
