Senior Software Engineer, Backend

• Build and operate critical, large-scale systems that manage massive volumes of financial information.
• Navigate a complex fintech environment with numerous compliance regulations, translating business needs into robust software requirements and scalable distributed systems.
• Lead cross-functional alignment and provide technical direction for multi-team projects.
• Build large-scale (petabyte-size) financial data platforms, solutions, and pipelines using Big Data technologies and distributed systems.
• Debug production issues across the stack, analyze complex datasets, and design large-scale data pipelines.
• Execute projects related to insights into Stripe’s financial performance across multiple products.
• Work on systems critical to Stripe's future financial operations, with impact over billions of dollars of payment volume.
• Deeply understand the design and architecture of modern payments and financial technology across countries.
• Leverage experience with monitoring, incident handling, and debugging in production environments to ensure data pipeline health and SLOs, while reducing operational toil via automation.

• Bachelor's Degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems Security, or related field, plus five (5) years of related work experience in Software Engineering.
• 5 years of experience programming in Java, Scala, or Python.
• 5 years of experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable distributed systems.
• 5 years of experience debugging production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.
• 5 years of experience with testing tools and frameworks including JUnit, Mockito, and TestNG.
• 4 years of experience developing complex SQL queries, analyzing datasets, and designing large-scale data pipelines.
• 4 years of experience working in fintech domain.
• 4 years of experience leading cross-team projects and building alignment on multi-team technical direction.
• 1 year experience working with Apache Spark or similar modern Big Data technologies.

Salary: $206,086.00 - $285,600.00/yr. This salary range represents the base salary range for the role; any sales commissions/sales bonuses targets, if applicable, would be in addition. Additional benefits may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.

40 hrs/week. 50% Telecommuting permitted. Multiple positions available. Location: Seattle, WA.
