Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Card Acquisition)

Affirm is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Card Acquisition team within the Consumer org. This team shapes the first experience customers have with Affirm, building trust, clarity, and value from the first interaction. As a Senior Engineer, you will define long-term technical strategy, mentor senior engineers, and act as a force multiplier through technical depth, operational excellence, and ability to navigate ambiguity. You will work at the intersection of product, design, and engineering to build polished, performant, and accessible user experiences that impact conversion, retention, and business growth.

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
• Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design, and analytics, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs.
• Proactively identify project, process, technology, or business issues, advocate for them, and lead in solving them.
• Take ownership of your team’s operations and availability by ensuring proper monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting for on-call efforts.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating beyond your team through writing and tech talks.
• Help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example.

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience defining a technical plan for delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple, and extensible design.
• Ability to write high-quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
• Proficient at making significant changes in a large code base, with a suite of tools and practices for safe changes.
• Demonstrated ownership of growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Base pay range per year: €86,000 - €122,000. Total compensation may include monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental, and vision for you and your dependents. Remote Spain. Affirm is a remote-first company, but this role requires being based in Spain. Visa sponsorship is available for this role.
