Senior Software Engineer, Backend (PBA - Growth)

The Powered by Affirm (PBA) team builds the APIs and solutions that power all of Affirm's integrations with Enterprise Merchants and Partners. This role focuses on backend development for the PBA Growth area within the Checkout department.

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics in the product development lifecycle, articulating technical constraints and partnering on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs.
• Proactively identify and solve project, process, technology, or business issues.
• Support operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting on-call efforts.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating for them through writing and tech talks.
• Help develop talent on the team by providing feedback and guidance.

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, and extensible designs.
• Proficiency in making significant changes in a large code base, with tools and practices for safe delivery.
• Ownership of personal growth, proactively seeking feedback.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for global collaboration.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Base pay range: CAD $153,000 - $213,000 per year. Total compensation may include monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits including 100% subsidized medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents.
