Senior Software Engineer II

The Solution Lifecycle team is looking for a curious, growth-minded Senior Software Engineer II to work on building the next generation of our platform while tackling meaningful distributed systems challenges. You will collaborate closely with product managers and fellow engineers through code reviews and architectural discussions, and you will have the opportunity to mentor other engineers. You will also work on the core infrastructure of Smartsheet, focusing on the reliability, stability, and scale of our foundational systems.

• Design and build scalable back-end services for Smartsheet's next-generation applications, solving complex distributed systems challenges.
• Help build and maintain the core infrastructure that serves as the backbone for Smartsheet, ensuring foundational reliability, stability, and performance.
• Contribute to managing and upgrading large-scale database infrastructure, maintaining complex replication topologies, and automating core operations using AWS, Golang, MySQL, Terraform, Temporal, and GitLab-CI.
• Work closely with the team in a real-time mob programming environment, participating as both driver and navigator, and contributing to collective code ownership.
• Use Test-Driven Development (TDD) to ensure foundational systems are resilient before production.
• Actively use AI tools to improve personal and team efficiency across coding, testing, design, and troubleshooting.
• Share responsibility for operational health of systems as part of a supportive on-call rotation.

• 8+ years of experience and proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Go, Java, Kotlin, or Python backgrounds translate well).
• 3+ years of experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and understanding of database internals and reliability (MySQL).
• 8+ years of software development experience building highly scalable, highly available applications, including developing, documenting, and supporting REST APIs.
• Comfortable working in a mob programming environment the majority of the day, writing test-driven code, and sharing system ownership.
• 1+ year professional experience leveraging AI to improve personal productivity in building complex SaaS feature sets.
• BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical industry experience).
• Legally eligible to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis.

US Base Salary Pay Range: $175,000—$245,000 USD. This role is eligible for a market competitive incentive opportunity.
