Software Engineer, Driver Experience

Lyft's Driver team is looking for a product-minded engineer to build and improve products at the center of the core driver experience. You will solve pain points that matter most to drivers by streamlining key interactions, reducing friction, and creating systems that feel intuitive, fair, and supportive. Collaborate with product, data science, analytics, and operations teams on code that empowers quick iteration.

• Design and implement backend features end-to-end, from technical design through production, with moderate guidance.
• Write clean, reliable, well-tested code that meets team standards.
• Participate in code reviews, giving specific and constructive feedback.
• Debug and resolve issues across backend services, including performance bottlenecks, reliability, and data integrity.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and partner engineering teams to clarify requirements and surface technical constraints.
• Write unit and integration tests; develop familiarity with testing and observability practices.
• Address technical debt and make incremental improvements to existing services.
• Participate in on-call rotations and respond to production incidents.

• 3–5 years of software engineering experience shipping backend features in production.
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages (Go, Python, Java, or similar).
• Solid working knowledge of distributed systems concepts — microservices, REST and/or gRPC APIs, message queues, and async processing.
• Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases, including data modeling, querying, and indexing.
• Experience with observability tooling — logging, metrics, and alerting.
• Comfortable working with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or similar).
• Experience writing and maintaining unit and integration tests.
• Familiarity with Git workflows, code review processes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to scope and break down moderately complex tasks independently.

Expected base pay range for this position in the Toronto area is CAD $108,000 - CAD $135,000, not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus, or benefits. This role is hybrid, with at least 3 days per week in the office, including Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.
