About the job

About the Role

Lyft's Growth Platforms team owns the Incentives & Messaging systems that determine and send the right messaging and/or incentives to the right user at the right time. As a Software Engineer on this team, you will design and implement backend features end-to-end, collaborate with cross-functional partners, and contribute to system design and technical discussions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement backend features end-to-end with clear ownership, from technical design through production.
  • Write clean, reliable, well-tested code and participate actively in code reviews.
  • Debug and resolve issues across backend services, including performance bottlenecks, reliability problems, and data integrity issues.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and partner engineering teams to clarify requirements and surface technical constraints.
  • Write unit and integration tests and develop familiarity with testing and observability practices.
  • Address technical debt and make incremental improvements to existing services.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and respond to production incidents.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of software engineering experience designing and shipping backend features in production.
  • BS/MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages (Go, Python, Java, or similar); Python is a plus.
  • Solid working knowledge of distributed systems concepts — microservices, REST and/or gRPC APIs, message queues, and async processing patterns.
  • Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases, including data modeling, querying, and indexing.
  • Experience with observability tooling — logging, metrics, and alerting.
  • Comfortable working with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or similar) at a feature level.
  • Familiarity with Git workflows, code review processes, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Nice to have: experience with machine learning and building LLM applications; proficiency in AI tools.

Compensation & Benefits

Expected base pay range for this position in the Toronto area is CAD $108,000 - CAD $135,000, not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
