Software Engineer II, Back-end (Card Mgmt & Transaction Processing)

Affirm is a remote-first fintech company that provides transparent, pay-over-time solutions. The Affirm Card is one of the company's fastest-growing products. This role is on the Consumer Engineering team, building and operating the systems behind every card issued at Affirm and every transaction processed across Affirm's card products, including the Affirm Card and one-time virtual cards. You will own core issuing and processing infrastructure powering authorization, transaction processing, account and card lifecycle management, tokenization, and platform security.

• Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery.
• Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design, and analytics, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs.
• Support the operations and availability of your team's artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting on-call efforts.
• Contribute to community by engaging in growth and development activities, including participation in the interview process.

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems; proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to turn simple problems into solutions that interact with multiple software components, writing clear, well-tested, extensible code.
• Comfort navigating a large codebase, debugging others' code, and providing feedback through code reviews.
• Ownership of growth, proactively seeking feedback.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.

Base pay range for Canada: CAD 133,000 - 183,000 per year. Total compensation may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits including 100% subsidized medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents. Remote Canada. Affirm is remote-first; most roles can be done from almost anywhere within the country of employment. Some positions may occasionally require in-person work at an Affirm office, and a few are office-based. All new hires are invited to attend an in-person onboarding experience.
