This is a critical engineering role within Twilio SendGrid, requiring a hands-on engineer to develop, deploy, and manage highly available, massive-scale distributed systems. The systems process more than 12 billion emails during peak events like Black Friday. The role involves modernizing backend systems, optimizing Go-based microservices, and contributing to the design and reliability of a dual-cloud infrastructure spanning AWS and Azure.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and ship reliable, high-velocity features with low end-to-end latency.
  • Drive rigorous code reviews and maintainable patterns in the Go codebase, ensuring high testing standards.
  • Manage and enhance cloud configurations across AWS and Azure using Terraform.
  • Ensure deep observability coverage with metrics, alerts, and distributed tracing.
  • Champion engineering health by identifying technical debt and single points of failure.
  • Mentor junior engineers and lead technical sprint planning.

Qualifications

Required: 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building resilient backend services at scale; practical experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code); strong production experience with Go, Java, or Python; experience with AWS and Azure core services; proficiency with Terraform; strong understanding of distributed datastores, caching, and asynchronous event streaming (e.g., Kafka); solid computer science fundamentals.

Desired: Experience with containerized infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes), database migration pathways, OpenTelemetry or distributed tracing, and network topology/proxy/MTA protocols.

Location

Remote - US, not eligible in CA, CT, NJ, NY, PA, WA. Occasional travel may be required.

Compensation

Estimated pay ranges: $138,700 - $173,400 for CO, HI, IL, MD, MA, MN, VT, DC; $146,800 - $183,600 for NY, NJ, WA, CA (outside SF Bay); $163,100 - $203,900 for SF Bay area. Eligible for equity and corporate bonus plans.
