Software Engineer, Payments

Gusto's mission is to grow the small business economy by handling payroll, health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR for over 500,000 small businesses nationwide. The company has teams in Denver, San Francisco, and New York.

We are hiring seasoned engineers to join our Payments team, which is responsible for all money management and movement operations. The team is re-architecting the payments platform to move money fast and at scale.

• Design, build, and test infrastructure for Payments and Risk teams.
• Help scale one of the largest Ruby/Rails and TypeScript/React applications in the world.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, Design, Data Science, Operations, and other cross-functional teams.
• Build the software platform that powers multiple first and third-party products serving millions of businesses.
• Mentor and grow fellow engineers.

• At least 7+ years of experience.
• Experience building fault-tolerant, mission-critical software and robust distributed systems.
• Experience influencing and guiding multiple teams on scaling, refactoring, and optimizing legacy products.
• Experience architecting, building, and testing large-scale production code.
• Ability to bring clarity to complex and ambiguous problems.
• Experience in Payments and/or Accounting systems is highly preferred.
• Bonus: Experience with Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, and React.

Cash compensation is targeted at $183,000-$200,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $222,000-$245,000/yr for San Francisco, Seattle & New York. All full-time employees receive competitive base pay, benefits, and equity (RSUs).

This role is hybrid in New York, NY or San Francisco, CA. Employees based in those locations are expected to work from the office approximately 2-3 days per week.
