Software Engineer, Research Tools

Anthropic's research teams need exceptional tools. As a Software Engineer on the Research Tools team, you'll build infrastructure and applications that enable researchers to iterate quickly, run complex experiments, and extract insights from frontier AI systems. This role sits at the intersection of product thinking and full-stack engineering, working directly with researchers to understand workflows and ship solutions.

• Build and maintain full-stack applications and infrastructure for researchers.
• Partner with research teams to translate workflows into technical solutions.
• Design intuitive interfaces and abstractions for complex research tasks.
• Create reusable platforms and tools for research applications.
• Rapidly prototype and iterate based on user feedback.
• Take ownership of complete product areas from design to implementation.
• Contribute to technical strategy and mentor other engineers.

You may be a good fit if you have 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on full-stack development, excel at rapid iteration, have experience building tools for technical users, demonstrate high agency, are proficient with modern web technologies (React, TypeScript, Python, etc.), and have a track record of building user-facing applications.

Strong candidates may also have experience building research tools, background in ML/AI, founded a startup, built open-source tools, experience with data visualization, contributed to engineering platforms, experience leveraging AI/LLMs, previous work in creative tools, or domain knowledge in HCI, systems safety, or AI alignment.

Annual salary: $300,000—$405,000 USD.

Hybrid - San Francisco, CA, New York City, NY, or Seattle, WA, at least 25% in office.
