About the job

About the Role

Zapier's mission is to make automation work for everyone. The Revenue Zone builds and operates the infrastructure behind billing, subscriptions, payments, pricing, entitlements, and checkout across all Zapier offerings. We are hiring a Staff Engineer to own the technical vision and long-term architecture for Revenue Zone, defining pricing primitives, service boundaries, and data models that enable shipping pricing and packaging changes in days instead of months while keeping every dollar accounted for accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical leader within the Revenue Zone, partnering with Engineering, Product, and Design to shape strategy and roadmap decisions.
  • Shape the long-term platform vision, balancing near-term delivery with long-term durability, extensibility, and operational excellence.
  • Lead high-impact technical initiatives, including decoupling billing from account systems, clarifying system boundaries, and consolidating pricing infrastructure.
  • Own and strengthen revenue-critical systems (Billing, Pricing, Payments, Checkout, Entitlements) ensuring resilience, observability, and correctness.
  • Guide high-impact technical decisions on API design, data modeling, caching strategies, and system architecture.
  • Partner deeply across Zapier with Pricing & Packaging, Product, Design, Support, and Operations to drive ARR growth and seamless monetization journeys.
  • Drive measurable improvements in latency, reliability, conversion, and retention.
  • Mentor engineers, raise the technical bar, and champion documentation and developer experience.

Qualifications

  • Proven engineering impact in complex, production systems at scale; many strong candidates have 8+ years of experience, but we hire for impact and capability, not tenure.
  • Strong domain knowledge in billing systems, subscription management, payment processing, or financial platforms, including metered billing, pricing models, entitlements, revenue recognition, and enterprise customer complexity.
  • Expertise in designing and building APIs that serve multiple consumers, with a track record of resolving performance bottlenecks through profiling, caching, and database optimization.
  • Outcome-driven and customer-focused, with a willingness to pivot when it better serves the customer and business.
  • Cross-team leadership and proactive ownership, with experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams.
  • AI fluency: use AI coding tools regularly and understand where they accelerate delivery and where human judgment is non-negotiable.
  • Comfort with complexity in large, mature codebases, including navigating a monolith and finding leverage points.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary ranges vary by country (e.g., US $210,700–$316,100; Canada CA$210,700–CA$316,100; UK £132,500–£198,700; Ireland €135,800–€203,800; Spain €135,800–€203,800; India ₹77,56,200–₹1,16,34,400; Australia A$208,600–A$313,000; New Zealand NZ$208,600–NZ$313,000).
