Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Notifications Relevance

The Notifications Relevance team is building the next generation of notifications to deliver the right content to the right user at the right time using the right channel (push, email digest, in-app).

As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer on Notifications Relevance, you will serve as a technical leader for one of Reddit's highest-leverage ML systems, driving strategy, architecture, and execution of large-scale recommendation systems spanning targeting, budget optimization, retrieval, ranking, measurement, and emerging LLM-powered experiences.

• Design and implement content discovery algorithms for a personalized user experience.
• Drive the vision for the notifications relevance team.
• Enhance core recommendation capabilities including candidate retrieval, ranking models, and budgeting optimization.
• Deploy ML models, integrate LLMs, and ensure robust monitoring and product integration.
• Serve as the primary ML domain expert, driving architectural decisions across the engineering organization.
• Collaborate with ML, Product, Infrastructure, and Data Science teams.

• 8+ years of industry experience with deep expertise in large-scale recommendation systems (notifications experience preferred).
• Proven ability to identify opportunities, define roadmaps, and drive scalable improvement.
• Strong experience building and deploying large-scale ML models using PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experience working with LLMs in production and utilizing generative AI to augment recommendation systems.
• Proficiency in object-oriented programming (Python, Golang).
• Big plus: experience with state-of-the-art model architectures and production Agentic AI frameworks.

Base salary range: $230,000—$322,000 USD. Eligible for equity in the form of restricted stock units, and possibly commission.
