Staff or Senior Firmware Engineer

As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer at Samsara, you will develop software for millions of devices deployed by industrial and enterprise customers. You will evaluate and select hardware components, bring up new hardware platforms and sensors, build systems to gather data and detect events, and structure recorded data for efficient analysis. The role involves shaping hardware decisions, bringing up new platforms from silicon, owning peripheral drivers and secure bootloaders, designing power-efficient protocols, and partnering with product, full-stack, mobile, and quality engineers.

• 8+ years building firmware for resource-constrained systems
• Led firmware development for several new products end to end
• Substantial bare-metal and RTOS experience (Zephyr, FreeRTOS, or equivalent)
• Experience bringing up new boards and debugging low-level interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, ADC)
• Senior-level scope: led work spanning hardware, firmware, cloud, and quality
• Fluency in C, with ability to read linker maps, stack traces, and corrupted heaps
• Strong bench instincts with oscilloscope, network analyzer, or RF spectrum analyzer
• Ability to write design docs, review comments, and post-mortems
• Comfortable iterating on customer feedback with automated testing
• Uses AI as part of daily workflow

• BLE at depth, including PHY-level understanding
• Cellular IoT (LTE-M or NB-IoT) modem integration and certification
• Securing embedded systems end to end (secure boot, firmware signing, cryptography)
• OTA and device firmware update at fleet scale
• Understanding of mass production and quality assurance of electronics

Annual base salary range: $162,400—$290,000 USD. Eligible for initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff and ongoing refresh opportunities.
