Staff Product Design Engineer

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations Cloud, enabling organizations that depend on physical operations to harness IoT data. We are looking for a Staff Product Design Engineer to drive the industrial design, architecture, and engineering of one or more Samsara products from concept to mass production. This role is open to candidates residing in the US and is hybrid, requiring 3 days per week in our San Francisco office.

• Define and drive the multi-year technical vision and cross-functional hardware strategy.
• Establish architectures and design solutions for rugged environments.
• Drive system feature trade-offs and define product specifications with product management and engineering teams.
• Design, build, and ship impactful products.
• Drive the development process through feasibility, prototyping, detailed design, validation, mass production, and go-to-market.
• Validate products against internal and external metrics.
• Own the full customer hardware experience including industrial design, packaging, and installation.
• Leverage JDM manufacturing partners to achieve performance, cost, and schedule goals.

• 12+ years of experience shipping hardware programs at scale with overseas partners.
• Proven record navigating tradeoffs between design, manufacturability, schedule, and cost.
• Experience developing and launching electromechanical components or products in mass production.
• Experience designing for automotive, outdoor, industrial, or consumer products.
• Proficiency in plastic/metal part design, CAD modeling, and drafting, preferably using NX.
• BS degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Ability to travel up to 10%.
• Hybrid presence (Tuesday-Thursday) in San Francisco.

• 15+ years of experience shipping high-volume hardware programs.
• MS degree in mechanical engineering.
• Experience with JDM partner teams.
• Experience with ruggedized product design.
• Experience integrating camera and antenna technologies.

Annual base salary range: $220,000—$275,000 USD. Eligible for initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff and ongoing refresh opportunities.
