Staff+ Software Engineer, Claude Managed Agents

About the role: Anthropic is seeking experienced backend and distributed systems engineers to join the Agentic Systems team within the Platform organization. This team builds Claude Managed Agents, a hosted platform for building, running, and scaling production agents on Claude. The role involves driving 0→1 efforts from ideation through GA, owning systems end to end from API design through operations, and partnering with product, research, developer experience, and go-to-market teams.

What you'll do: Scale the platform by designing and operating systems for durable session and event storage, sandbox orchestration, streaming, scheduling, and multi-tenant isolation. Evolve the agent harness and build eval infrastructure to measure harness quality. Ship capabilities like outcome-driven execution, multi-agent orchestration, memory, and observability. Design APIs that outlast their implementations.

Qualifications: Minimum 8 years of practical experience as a backend, distributed systems, or infrastructure engineer. Experience building and operating stateful, long-running, or high-throughput systems in production. Strong product sense and API design skills. Comfort with ambiguity and 0→1 work. Use Claude or other AI tools as a core part of building software. Strong candidates may have experience with agent harnesses, AI/ML platforms, eval infrastructure, durable execution, or public developer platforms.

Compensation: Annual salary range: $405,000—$485,000 USD.

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY, with at least 25% time in office.
