About the job

Anthropic is a public benefit corporation building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The Data Infrastructure team designs, operates, and scales secure, privacy-respecting systems that power data-driven decisions across the company, providing data processing, storage, and access that are trusted, fast, and easy to use.

This role works at the intersection of data systems, security, and scalability, collaborating with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders while diving deep into cloud infrastructure primitives. Within Data Infra, you may be matched to critical business areas including:

  • Data Governance & Access Control: Design and implement access control systems, build infrastructure for permission management, audit logging, and compliance, and work on IAM policies, ACLs, and security controls that scale across thousands of users and systems.
  • Financial Data Infrastructure: Build and maintain data pipelines and warehouses powering business-critical reporting, including third-party revenue ingestion pipelines, and own the reliability of systems processing revenue, usage, and business metrics.
  • Cloud Storage & Reliability: Architect disaster recovery, backup, and replication systems for petabyte-scale data, ensuring high availability and durability of data in cloud object storage (GCS, S3).
  • Data Platform & Tooling: Scale data processing infrastructure using BigQuery, BigTable, Airflow, dbt, and Spark; optimize query performance, manage costs, and enable self-service analytics.

Qualifications: 10+ years (excluding internships/co-ops) in a Software Engineer role building data infrastructure, storage systems, or related distributed systems; 3+ years leading large-scale, complex projects or teams as an engineer or tech lead; ability to set technical direction; deep experience with at least one of Python, Go, Java, or similar; infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi) and cloud platforms (GCP, AWS); ability to navigate tradeoffs between performance, cost, security, and maintainability; strong collaboration skills. Strong candidates may also have experience with security and compliance requirements (ITGC, GDPR, financial controls), data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, analytics infrastructure, Kubernetes and cloud-native architectures, column-oriented databases/OLAP systems, fintech or regulated environments, or security engineering focused on data protection.

Technologies used: BigQuery, BigTable, Airflow, Cloud Composer, dbt, Spark, Segment, Fivetran, GCS, S3, Terraform, Kubernetes, GCP, AWS, Python, Go, SQL.

Compensation: Annual salary $405,000—$485,000 USD. Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience in a field relevant to the role. Visa sponsorship is offered. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with no deadline.
