Staff Software Engineer - Platform

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Platform team, responsible for building foundational systems such as Alerts, Workflows, Notifications, Reports, User Management, Roles and Permissions, Billing, and more. As a Staff Engineer, you will spearhead technical direction, drive architecture, and lead teams to deliver scalable solutions.

Responsibilities include:

• Drive technology choices and establish architectural patterns with broad impact.
• Architect, design, and develop software that enables Samsara to operate at scale.
• Lead teams in delivering products and capabilities that contribute to revenue.
• Collaborate with infrastructure and product teams to build products and tools.
• Act as a multiplier, elevating team impact and output.
• Represent Samsara in external forums.

Minimum requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions, with at least 2 years in an architect or leadership role.
• 4+ years building large scale distributed systems.
• 4+ years leading cross-organization projects.
• Stellar programming/coding fundamentals.

Ideal candidates have mastery in data modeling and full-stack application architecture at massive scale, programming mastery in Go, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, C/C++, and expert knowledge of at-scale stream processing decision engines.

Compensation: Annual base salary $162,400—$290,000 USD, plus initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff and ongoing refresh opportunities. Benefits include flexible remote model, professional development stipend, comprehensive health and parental leave plans, performance-based bonus, and equity.

This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US. The final interview stage is a full-day, in-person onsite at our SF office.
