Synthesia’s AI training platform is moving beyond videos into live coaching
Synthesia launched AI Roleplay Sessions, an interactive enterprise training platform where employees practice workplace conversations with AI avatars that provide feedback, scoring, and analytics to help companies measure training effectiveness.
Synthesia is making a quiet pivot. The company built its reputation on AI-generated video, a clever solution for enterprises that needed scalable content without cameras, actors, or studios. Now it is moving into live, interactive coaching with AI Roleplay Sessions, where employees rehearse difficult workplace conversations against avatars that score their performance.
The logic is straightforward. Video is a one-way medium. It explains, it demonstrates, but it does not measure whether anyone actually learned anything. Synthesia's enterprise customers have been asking the same question every L&D department asks: did the training change behavior? A platform that simulates a tense performance review or a compliance scenario and then grades the participant gives the buyer something video never could: a metric.
This is the real product shift. Synthesia is selling measurement, not avatars. The avatars are the delivery mechanism. The scoring, feedback loops, and analytics dashboard are what justify the enterprise contract. It is the same playbook every training platform eventually adopts: move from content library to performance data.
The competitive implications are worth noting. Companies like Cornerstone, Workday Learning, and a long tail of LMS vendors sit on troves of completion data but almost nothing on actual competency. If Synthesia can build a credible corpus of conversational performance benchmarks, it becomes a data company as much as a content company. That is a harder business to displace.
For the remote and distributed workforce angle, the timing is deliberate. Asynchronous, geographically scattered teams cannot rely on in-person coaching or live workshops. An always-available AI rehearsal partner fits the operational reality of how modern enterprises actually train people. Synthesia is not chasing a trend; it is following where the workforce already is.
