Walmart completes its acquisition of TV advertising company Vibe.co
The acquisition, which was first announced in June, brings Vibe.co into Walmart Connect, Walmart's connected TV advertising platform.
Walmart has closed its acquisition of Vibe.co, folding the connected-TV advertising outfit into Walmart Connect. The deal, first announced in June, signals the retailer's intent to compete more directly in the programmatic CTV space, where ad inventory is increasingly unbundled from traditional cable bundles.
The strategic logic is straightforward. Walmart commands an enormous trove of first-party purchase data, and CTV is one of the few remaining channels where advertisers still pay premium rates without granular performance feedback. Vibe.co's technology gives Walmart a way to close that loop, matching household-level viewing signals against actual basket behavior. That is the real currency here, not the ad slots themselves.
For the broader ad-tech landscape, the move continues a pattern of retail media networks expanding upstream into the supply side. Kroger, Target, and Amazon have all pushed in similar directions. The endgame is vertical integration: own the audience data, own the demand-side platform, and now increasingly own the means of delivery. Independent CTV inventory providers will find themselves either partnering with or competing against the same handful of retail giants.
Walmart has not disclosed the financial terms. What is clear is that the company is treating advertising infrastructure as core retail infrastructure, not a side business. That reframing matters more than the price tag.
