About the job

About the role

We are hiring a Commercial Counsel for our legal team. In this role, you will be a partner to the business on general commercial matters and will negotiate the contracts that contribute to Chime’s success – from our biggest deals, to the bread and butter contracts that companies need to operate.

What you can expect to do

  • Work closely with the business to provide strategic guidance and negotiate, draft and review a broad range of commercial agreements, including SaaS agreements, strategic partnership agreements, NDAs, marketing agreements (e.g. talent agreements, production services agreements, Ad-Tech agreements), technology vendor contracts, and professional services agreements.
  • Use AI tools as a regular part of your work, including for drafting, contract review, research, and summarization, while applying sound legal judgment to verify and refine the output.
  • Proactively work to streamline and improve current processes and procedures, such as by creating templates and developing legal trainings and playbooks.
  • Build and refine AI-enabled workflows and processes that help the legal team and the business work faster and more efficiently.
  • Develop strong, collaborative relationships cross-functionally and within the legal team, including with subject matter experts in intellectual property, security, and privacy.
  • Escalate issues, as appropriate, to other legal team members and collaboratively share potential risks and proposals with the executive team.

What you bring

  • A J.D. and active membership in at least one state bar.
  • 2-5 years of combined law firm, government, and/or in-house experience.
  • Experience (and maybe even a strong fondness for) drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  • Genuine excitement about using AI to build processes that make our work more efficient, along with a willingness to experiment, iterate, and share what you learn with the team.
  • Comfort using AI tools in your day-to-day work and a commitment to doing so responsibly, including an awareness of confidentiality, privilege, and accuracy considerations.
  • Practical business judgment and problem-solving skills to be able to quickly understand the business’ needs, provide strategic guidance, and craft creative solutions.
  • A willingness to dig deep into the subject matter of an agreement.
  • A track record of success in handling complex business and legal issues.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and develop positive relationships with internal partners and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Familiarity with fintech, technology, banking, or financial services companies (a plus, but not a requirement).

Compensation & benefits

Base salary range: $152,000—$210,000 USD. Full-time employees may also be eligible for bonus(es), competitive equity, and benefits.

Benefits include: backup child, elder, and pet care and subsidized commuter benefits for eligible employees; comprehensive health, financial, and wellbeing benefits; generous vacation policy and company-wide paid days off; 1% of your time off to support local community organizations; annual wellness stipend; up to 22 weeks of paid parental leave for birthing parents and 12 weeks for non-birthing parents; access to family planning reimbursement.

Location & work policy

This role is based in New York, NY or San Francisco, CA. You are located within commuting distance to one of our hubs: San Francisco, Chicago, or New York City.
