About the job

About the role

ClickHouse, recognized on the 2025 Forbes Cloud 100 list, is a fast-growing private cloud company with more than 4,000 customers and ARR growth over 250% year over year. The company leads the market in real-time analytics, data warehousing, observability, and AI workloads, backed by a $400M Series D financing round. The Core Engineering teams own the heart of the ClickHouse Open Source project, and this role contributes to, analyzes, and optimizes the performance of the core ClickHouse database.

Responsibilities

  • Work on query optimization, distributed query optimization, relational operators (e.g., aggregation and joins), caching, and low-level optimizations like SIMD instructions.
  • Ensure database performance does not deteriorate by extending existing and adding new performance tests based on real-world or synthetic datasets.
  • Serve as a resource for the Support Engineering team, debugging advanced performance issues encountered by customers, including an on-call rotation and participation in external community support channels.
  • Collaborate with other teams to assess the impact of new features on performance and reliability.
  • Work with the open-source community, resolving issues, reviewing and finishing PRs, and answering questions across mail, chats, Google Groups, external Slack channels, etc.

Qualifications

  • Solid professional software development experience in C++.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux systems.
  • Strong knowledge of database internals and design.
  • Experience in performance engineering, ideally in a database, but other areas like high-frequency trading, simulation, or real-time data processing are acceptable.
  • Strong communication, code review, problem-solving, and production debugging skills.

Bonus points for experience with ClickHouse, security/privacy/compliance, TCP/IP and network programming, cloud infrastructure services (preferably Kubernetes), public technical talks, and open-source contributions.
