About the Role
Smartsheet is seeking a Director, Finance Systems & ERP to lead the engineering organization responsible for the company's financial technology ecosystem. This role defines the long-term technical strategy for platforms including NetSuite, Coupa, Planful, Stripe, ZoneBilling, Metronome, and Avalara, and oversees the architecture, engineering maturity, and delivery of systems supporting financial operations, procurement, planning, payments, billing, revenue processes, and emerging monetization models.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical strategy and long-term architecture for Smartsheet's financial systems ecosystem across ERP, procurement, financial planning, payments, billing, tax, revenue processes, integrations, data, automation, and AI.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Financial Systems Engineering organization.
- Serve as the senior technology leader for NetSuite and ERP, ensuring scalability, maintainability, security, and auditability.
- Provide technology leadership for major Finance transformation programs, including ERP reimplementation and modernization.
- Partner with Product Managers to translate product strategy into technical roadmaps and executable engineering plans.
- Shape technology architecture for evolving SaaS monetization models, including subscription, usage-based, and consumption-based pricing.
- Define the strategy for Finance systems data, including data models, contracts, quality, lineage, and integration with the enterprise data platform.
- Establish an AI strategy for Financial Systems Engineering, identifying practical applications of LLMs and agents while ensuring financial integrity and controls.
- Develop a strategy for automated testing and quality engineering across the Finance technology stack.
- Establish modern engineering practices including CI/CD, observability, and release engineering.
- Represent Financial Systems Engineering on executive steering committees and transformation governance forums.
- Recruit, develop, and retain engineering talent.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience across financial systems, enterprise application engineering, ERP, software engineering, or related disciplines.
- 5+ years of experience leading technical teams, including managing managers and senior engineers.
- Deep experience with NetSuite or comparable enterprise ERP platforms.
- Demonstrated experience leading a major ERP implementation or transformation program.
- Strong understanding of financial business processes including record-to-report, procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, billing, payments, and revenue workflows.
- Experience with financial platforms such as Coupa, Planful, Stripe, ZoneBilling, Metronome, Avalara, or comparable technologies.
- Experience with SaaS billing and monetization architectures, including usage-based models.
- Experience designing or evolving enterprise data architecture and integrating with platforms like Databricks or Snowflake.
- Understanding of modern AI capabilities and practical applications of LLMs and agents.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, auditability, and compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Finance, Business, or equivalent practical experience.
Compensation & Benefits
US Base Salary Pay Range: $175,000—$290,000 USD. This role is eligible for a market competitive incentive opportunity.
