About the role

Anthropic is seeking a Director, Infrastructure & Energy Accounting to lead technical accounting for complex infrastructure and energy arrangements, including data center leases, power purchase agreements, and related structures. This role ensures financial statement accuracy for the most technically complex contracts and serves as the technical accounting subject matter expert.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical accounting subject matter expert for infrastructure and energy arrangements, leading classification, measurement, and subsequent accounting judgments.
  • Apply ASC 842 to complex lease arrangements, including embedded leases within compute, colocation, and data center contracts.
  • Apply ASC 810 to counterparty and joint-venture structures, including VIE analysis.
  • Apply ASC 815 to energy and infrastructure arrangements, including embedded derivatives.
  • Lead technical accounting analysis and memo preparation, ensuring auditor-ready positions.
  • Partner with Real Estate, Legal, and Finance teams during contract negotiation.
  • Serve as a trusted finance partner to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Serve as key point of contact with external auditors.
  • Mentor accounting professionals and drive process improvements, including leveraging AI tooling.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, with meaningful time in technical accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge of ASC 842, ASC 810, and ASC 815.
  • Experience accounting for energy contracts (PPAs, Virtual PPAs, RECs).
  • Track record of authoring and defending technical accounting memos.
  • Strong analytical abilities and comfort with large, complex contracts and datasets.
  • Experience improving scalable technical accounting processes.
  • Ability to translate technical accounting concepts for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Experience partnering with engineering, infrastructure, or operations teams.

Compensation

Annual Salary: $230,000—$300,000 USD

Location

San Francisco, CA or Seattle, WA. Hybrid policy: at least 25% in office.
