Distributed Systems Engineer - Data Platform (Delivery, Database, Retrieval)

Cloudflare's Data Org is responsible for the entire data lifecycle, from ingestion to storage and retrieval, powering logs and analytics for real-time visibility. We build high-performance, scalable systems handling over a billion events per second. As a Distributed Systems Engineer, you'll work on complex distributed systems challenges across data delivery, analytical database platform (ClickHouse), and data retrieval (GraphQL APIs, log delivery, alerting).

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable distributed systems across the data lifecycle.
• Build and optimize high-throughput data delivery platforms for low-latency delivery.
• Develop and improve components of the Cloudflare Analytical Platform.
• Scale and maintain large-scale database clusters.
• Develop customer-facing GraphQL APIs, log delivery, and alerting solutions.
• Identify and remove bottlenecks across data platforms.
• Collaborate with teams and the ClickHouse open-source community.

• 3+ years of software development experience with distributed systems and databases.
• Strong programming skills, preferably in Go.
• Experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana) and high-cardinality metrics.
• Strong SQL and database internals knowledge.
• Solid computer science foundation.
• Experience with ClickHouse, Kafka/Flink, GraphQL, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes is a plus.

Compensation varies by location:

• Portugal: €54,000 - €91,000
• Denver: $136,000 - $231,000
• Washington D.C. and Seattle: $150,000 - $154,000

Eligible for Cloudflare's equity plan.
