About the job
About the Role
Lyft's Marketplace organization is responsible for accelerating business growth while delivering on key business and financial metrics. The Dynamic Pricing & Offer Selection team uses real-time and historical data to set the price of every ride on Lyft, balancing price and ETA. The team also decides which ride options a rider sees, making its systems among the highest-traffic, most business-critical services at the company. The team is a tightly integrated group of software engineers and data scientists spread across the US and Canada, working side by side to take machine learning and optimization models from research to production.
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a group of 6-8 engineers. You'll own the reliability and evolution of dynamic pricing systems that operate at Lyft's full scale, partner closely with technical and product leadership to define the roadmap, and grow a strong team of engineers. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys going deep on technical tradeoffs, cares equally about operational excellence and business outcomes, and is energized by working in a fast-paced environment with high impact.
Responsibilities
- Own and drive engineering execution for the team's roadmap, from planning through delivery, adapting as priorities and business conditions change.
- Define the team's engineering vision and short- and mid-term plans in partnership with Science and Product, making clear tradeoffs between technology, product and business needs.
- Facilitate cross-functional decision-making and resolve blockers with partner teams across Marketplace.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders to align on standards, identify collaboration opportunities, and keep them informed of risks and dependencies.
- Understand the team's stack deeply and be accountable for architectural decisions.
- Partner with tech leads and scientists to productionize models safely, with strong experimentation, shadowing, rollout and monitoring practices.
- Ensure production readiness by setting success metrics, SLAs and reliability standards; own on-call health and serve as an escalation point during incidents, including major events.
- Manage tech debt and make sure systems stay reliable, efficient and cost-effective as the platform evolves.
- Hire, develop and retain a diverse team of engineers, and build an environment where open, positive collaboration between engineering and science is the norm.
- Set clear expectations, give timely feedback, evaluate performance fairly, and support each engineer's growth and career development.
- Match people to opportunities that stretch them, and develop future technical leaders on the team.
- Define and refine team processes, tooling and operating rhythms.
- Contribute to the broader Lyft engineering community through mentoring, interviewing and knowledge sharing.
Experience
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of software development experience, with enough technical depth to engage credibly in architecture and design discussions.
- At least 3 years of people management experience, with a demonstrated ability to grow engineers and build cohesive teams.
- Proven track record of delivering projects end-to-end in a fast-paced environment, balancing speed with quality and sustainability.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills — comfortable working alongside Product, Design, Science, and Analytics to align on priorities and drive shared outcomes.
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity, decompose complex problems, and bring structure and clarity to the team.
- Experience managing a diverse set of engineering roles — backend, web, mobile, and/or data — is a plus.
- Experience working on a growth-focused team or org (incentives, messaging, ads) is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent the team clearly to senior stakeholders and advocate effectively for resourcing and prioritization.
Benefits
- Extended health and dental coverage options, along with life insurance and disability benefits.
- Mental health benefits.
- Family building benefits.
- Child care and pet benefits.
- Access to a Lyft funded Health Care Savings Account.
- RRSP plan with company match to help save for your future.
- In addition to provincial observed holidays, salaried team members are covered under Lyft's flexible paid time off policy.
- Hourly team members get 15 days paid time off, with an additional day for each year of service.
- Lyft is proud to support new parents with 18 weeks of paid time off, designed as a top-up plan to complement provincial programs. Biological, adoptive, and foster parents are all eligible.
- Subsidized commuter benefits and Lyft ride credits.
Work Arrangement
This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office at least 3 days per week, including on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Lyft considers working in the office at least 3 days per week to be an essential function of this hybrid role. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.
Compensation
The expected base pay range for this position in the Toronto area is CAD $172,000 - CAD $215,000, not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location.
